Mitchell Joseph "Mitch" Landrieu is the Mayor of New Orleans, former Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana, and a member of the Landrieu family. Landrieu is a member of the Democratic Party.
Mitch Landrieu was sworn in as the 61st Mayor of New Orleans on May 3, 2010. He has pledged to usher in a new era of peace and prosperity for the people of New Orleans. Mitch knows it will be a long, hard road to overcome the City’s challenges, but together we can create jobs, improve schools and make streets safe. Mitch’s governing philosophy is rooted in his Jesuit education, where he learned to be committed to service. He was educated at Jesuit High School, Catholic University, and earned a law degree from Loyola University.
As a State Legislator, Mitch represented the Broadmoor neighborhood for 16 years. During his tenure, he made his mark as a reformer who could get the job done. As Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana, Mitch served as an executive, managing a $127 million budget and 800 employees. To deliver results, he put in place strict standards of accountability.
