Dr. Bingu wa Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi, is a distinguished International Economic and Politician. He holds a PhD in development economics from Pacific Western University, in Los Angeles and a master's degree in economics from the University of Delhi, India.
Professionally he has high level management experience having served in the civil service in Malawi and Zambia, as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi, and Minister of Economic Planning and Development. He has also served as Secretary-General of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa 9COMESA), and in the United States as Director for Trade and Development Finance for Africa (1978).
He is President of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party, Founder and Chairperson of Bineth Trust, the Bingu Silvergrey Foundation for the Elderly, and the University of Southern Malawi.
