Mr. Joseph Wambia is the Managing Partner/CEO of WambiaCapital Group, whose mission is to intermediate capital flows to Africa, in part by making “Investing in Africa Simple”. The company syndicates public and private capital and guarantees for investing in Africa; and provides Africa-focused corporate finance, representation and risk advisory services to the World Bank, and other major institutional clients in the public and private sector.
Mr. Wambia retired from the World Bank in 2005 after a 26-year career as a senior staff in front-line lending operations in Asia and Africa, portfolio risk management, asset and liability management in the Treasury, and Internal Audit.
He has appeared on CNBC Street Signs and Voice of America; and been quoted in The Christian Science Monitor, Africa Investor, and Africa Report as an expert on investing in Africa. He has addressed the Milken Global Conference, Bloomberg Africa-Investor Conference, and Marcus Evans Frontier Investors Summit, among others. He is a corporate member of the Bretton Woods Committee, Corporate Council on Africa, and Chairs the Board of Trustees of the KCA University Trust Fund. He has published peer reviewed articles in policy research journals and book chapters on the political economy of large-scale institutional reforms. He recently received the Head of State Commendation (HSC) from the President of Kenya for public service in international development, capital intermediation and diplomacy for Africa.
Mr. Wambia has a B.Com (Hons) and MSc (Econ, with Distinction) from the University of Nairobi, and an MBA in Finance from Georgetown University. In addition, he holds several certifications in audit and financial risk management.
