An expert in adult stem cell research, Dr. Theresa Deisher is the first person to discover adult cardiac-derived stem cells. She also owns 23 issued US patents, whose discoveries have led to clinical trials of fibroblast growth factor 18 for osteoarthritis and cartilage repair, and for Factor XIII for surgical bleeding. Dr. Deisher was a plaintiff in the US federal lawsuit to prohibit use of federal tax payer dollars for embryo destructive research. Her participation has led to 14 US FDAapproved adult stem cell products, in which the Washington Post has headlined " Scientists Go Ethical" in December 2013. In January 2008, Dr. Deisher founded AVM Biotechnology focusing initially on regenerative medicine and vaccinations that are safe, effective and affordable. She later founded Sound Choice Pharmaceutical Institute, a non-profit organization promoting safe and moral medicines/therapeutics. Dr. Deisher obtained her Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Physiology from Stanford University. She has 20 years of experience in commercial biotechnology. Prior to founding AVM Biotechnology and SCPI, she worked with leading biotechnology companies including Genentech, Repligen, ZymoGenetics, Immunex and Amgen. She is a frequent lecturer on stem cell issues including research, clinical progress, policy, economics and ethics.
