Jonathan Bowles is Executive Director of the Center for an Urban Future, a Manhattan-based think tank that shines a light on the key opportunities and challenges facing New York, with a focus on growing and diversifying the city’s economy and expanding economic opportunity. During his 15 years at the Center, he has been the architect of the Center’s policy agenda and is responsible for making it one of New York’s most innovative and influential organizations.
Jonathan has authored and edited more than three-dozen policy reports, including New Tech City, a widely-heralded study about New York City’s growing start-up tech scene, A World of Opportunity, about the powerful role of immigrant entrepreneurs in New York’s economy, and Branches of Opportunity, a study about the still critical role of the city’s public libraries. He has also written about the economic importance of New York’s design industries, the need to address the skills gap, the challenges facing New York’s middle class and how to better harness the economic potential of New York’s academic research institutions. He lives in Queens with his wife and his two kids.
