The Future of Information

While innovation within the sphere of computation and the Internet appears to have taken place with respect to novel new devices, such as tablets and smartphones, and through the provision of more powerful Web services via the ‘“cloud”; an essential source of innovation and new services has surfaced with the acquisition and analysis of very large data sets. What is profound about these data sets is not only that have they never existed before, but also that they can be measured and analyzed in unique ways to reveal patterns and aspects of how users interact with the Web. How can these data sets be used to provide new innovations and interactions? What are the risks? What steps should be taken to address privacy concerns?
